Australian Actors Studio - formerly 'The Academy of Television' now in its 29th year, offers the most comprehensive screen acting classes second to none. Past graduates have been successful in gaining employment in the industry with numerous appearances in television shows, films and commercials including, soon to be released Australian Feature Film 'Swimming for Gold', ABC's hit tv series 'Mystery Road', Marvel epics 'Thor Ragnarok' & 'Aquaman', Channel 7's 2016 hit TV series 'Wanted', Neighbours, The Straits, Mabo, Home and Away, The Pacific, Beneath Hill 60, Sea Patrol & Fools Gold to name but a few.


The very competitive nature of "The Business" unfortunately prevents inexperienced but talented people from starting out.  The drama classes & workshops are designed to provide students with a comprehensive background while building "hands on" experience before entering the industry professionally. Courses and workshops cater for beginners right through to Advanced Certificate with courses available across multiple locations in South East Queensland and courses available online for students all over the world.


Remember it's never too late to start, with our oldest student to date being 72 years old.  STUDIO AUSTRALIA MANAGEMENT, our affiliate actors management company has been introduced to promote AAS graduates and other experienced actors for suitable work in the film and television industry for both National and International representation.   We invite all our successful graduates to join our agency free of charge.   Studio Australia Management were the main providing actors agency to ABCs "The Straits" as well as Jetstar Australia and Japan advertising campaigns and also supplied over 60% of the QLD talent to war epic, "Beneath Hill 60" shot in Townsville. HBO & Steven Spielbergs, "The Pacific" aired on televisions worldwide of which Studio Australia Management supplied in excess of 70% of the QLD talent.  With something on offer to suit everyone, at The Academy we offer screen acting classes for kids, teenagers and adults at every level.


The only actors training centre of it's kind in QLD, The Australian Actors Studio is not a short cut to stardom but a great stepping stone for dedicated and talented students!  With workshops available in numerous locations including Brisbane and South East Queensland & a variety of online courses also available!

Originally from Melbourne, David began acting at a very early age and it wasn't long before his presence in Australian Television was felt.  First appearances in Prisoner "Cell Block H", The Sullivans, Neighbours, right through to more recently Blue Heelers, Good Guys Bad Guys to name but a few and his self titled talk show "Armstrong Live".  


A qualified secondary Drama Teacher, David founded the Academy of Television in Melbourne in 1989 and has since expanded operations to include Brisbane and Far North QLD.  David has also worked as a film and television casting consultant with some of Australia's most well known television programs including 'Rove' and 'In Melbourne Tonight'. Over several decades David has been devoted to assisting new talent with finding their feet in this ever competitive industry.

Gavin was a driving force in the launch of The Australian Actors Studio in QLD and has been leading our team since 2003.  Gavin brings a wealth of experience both in front and behind the camera.   As founder of our affiliate actors agency Studio Australia Management, Gavin's passion lies in showcasing QLD talent on a national and international level.


Gavin has appeared in numerous Australian TV series and Films, including "Sea Patrol", "The Straits" and "Mabo".

Who is Steve?

Steve Rooke

Steven Rooke is a multi award winning film and television actor who loves directing and teaching emerging actors. Steven graduated from QUT’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2000 and has worked in or around the industry ever since. He has worked with most of the theatre companies in Brisbane, including Queensland Theatre, La Boite, shake & stir, Playlab, Baran Theatre, 23rd Productions and Counterpilot.

His films include Forever First Love, Last Ark, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Footy Legends and Blurred while TV includes Always Greener, Home and Away, Wanted and Harrow among others. He holds 3 Matilda Awards for his theatre work and a Queensland New Filmmakers Award for his screen work.
